The Calicut Half Marathon, organized by the students of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode), represents the institute’s commitment to fostering social responsibility and community engagement. Established in 1996, IIM Kozhikode has rapidly ascended to become one of India’s top management institutions, known for its pioneering initiatives, academic rigor, and commitment to societal impact. From its humble beginnings with a batch of 42 students, IIM Kozhikode has grown to over 1,200 students annually, making it one of the fastest-growing business schools in India. The institute’s evolution has been marked by remarkable milestones, such as achieving the esteemed AMBA and EQUIS accreditations and debuting in global rankings like the QS World University and Financial Times Rankings.
Driven by a vision to “Globalize Indian Thought,” IIM Kozhikode has introduced unique programs, including the PGP-Liberal Studies & Management and PGP-Finance, and established Centers of Excellence, which tackle pressing issues like climate change and social innovation. The Calicut Half Marathon embodies IIM Kozhikode’s ethos by bringing the community together to promote awareness on key social issues, such as road safety, healthy living, and compassionate communities. Supported by partnerships with NGOs, corporates, and local authorities, the marathon allows students to contribute meaningfully, leveraging the institute’s growth and resources to create lasting impact. Through this annual event, IIM Kozhikode not only strengthens its community bonds but also instills in students a profound sense of social responsibility, aligning with the institute’s mission to produce leaders who drive positive change in society.
This year, the Calicut Marathon embraces the theme Run to Remember – Alzheimer’s and Dementia Awareness, drawing attention to a growing health concern that deeply impacts individuals, families, and communities. India is witnessing a rapid rise in dementia cases, yet
awareness, early diagnosis, and caregiver support remain limited. The theme highlights the need for collective understanding and encourages conversations around cognitive
health—topics that are often overlooked despite their far-reaching effects.
The marathon seeks to connect the act of running with the importance of memory, care, and compassion. Just as every step in a run requires strength and endurance, supporting those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia calls for empathy, patience, and resilience. As participants move through the streets of Kozhikode, the event becomes a symbolic journey—one that honours those navigating memory loss and acknowledges the silent struggles of caregivers.
Calicut Marathon 2026 aims to inspire a more informed and supportive society by spotlighting early detection, healthy lifestyle practices, and community involvement. This year, we invite runners, families, healthcare professionals, and citizens to stand together for a cause that touches countless lives. Let us run to remember those who forget, to support those who care, and to build a future where memory loss is met not with stigma, but with understanding, action, and hope
